Autumn is the perfect season for mixing prints and solid colours. It’s the season where we start layering, and those feather light cotton tees have to give way to slightly heavier, warmer threads.

Bright bold prints and deep colours are the cornerstones of this trend.  This Navajo-inspired trend is perfect for cool weather – you can pair rich earthy basics with brightly patterned statement pieces for a layered look with loads of texture.

Denims get an update, with neon coloured denims slowly going out of focus. This season, look for vivid shades of denim in natural colours that bring to mind stark twilight skies and desert sands.

A great way to wear this look is to combine deep neutral tones with brightly coloured and patterned pieces. Try stone-coloured denims with a tribal-print top, and cover up with a thick knitted layer in a vivid shade or print. Or pair contrasting colours for a new take on colour blocking in richer tones.

This look can transition from at-home to night out easily. Ponchos are the perfect casual top layer – wear them in solid colours or go slightly more adventurous with variations that have stitch detailing and trimmings.

Colours and prints aren’t the only markers of this stylish trend. Tassels and fringe are a great touch and serve well as subtle infusions of this tribal look without being outrageous.

The Navajo look is also accessory heaven. Classic feathered styles get an update with rich colours and traditional woody textures get an update with pretty dream catcher-inspired pieces in soft silver and dusty gold.

Find your inner desert princess with this autumn look.
