Girl on film: Emielke
Some people love being in front of the camera and in the limelight, while others like BA Fine Arts graduate Emielke van Wyk prefers to be the one capturing it all. As one of the country’s busiest and successful commercial photographers responsible for many of the fashion shoots that adorn many of South Africa’s hottest fashion titles. LEGiT caught up with the dedicated professional to find out a little more about what makes fashion sense to her. With a knack to bring out the best in models and designs, whether it’s in Jozi, Maputo or as far away as Russia and Scandinavia, Emielke is going places and we’ve come along for the ride.
Describe your personal style.
Practical and casual for work, and then classic and classy when I get the chance to dress up.
What’s your number one tip for on-trend style?
Which ever of the numerous trends you wish to follow, ensure that the items you buy are suited for your figure and complementary to your skin's complexion.
What’s your favourite occasion to dress up for?
Any occasion that requires me to wear a beautiful dress and exquisite jewellery.
What’s your number one summer 2012 essential?
Sunblock and a pair of good quality polarized sunglasses.
Heels or flip-flops?
Flip-flops! I broke my wrist falling off my high heels at a party once – enough said.
What is your most treasured fashion item?
My lipstick red boots, although I don't get to wear them often.
Do you have an item in the back of your wardrobe that you’ll never wear?
Yes, genuine clogs from Amsterdam.
What are your first-date wardrobe staples? What items make a fantastic first impression?
A pair of well-fitting jeans… and a pretty top! Keep it simple, lean towards sexy, but don't go too revealing. After all you’ve got to leave them wanting more ;-)
